Writers Block – The Evil Sister of Creative Writing

Have you ever sat in front of your computer screen, preparing to write another article and the following happened? Nothing – your mind went blank, your brain cells froze and you just sat there for what seemed like ages without getting anywhere.

Writers Block happens to all of us, no matter how little or how much experience we have as a writer. Sometimes our creative juices just don’t flow. They are not in alignment with our fingers. There is however a few things you can do when writers block hits.

Goggle It: Go to google and search on anything that is relevant to your article. If you want to write about “coffee beans” then do targeted searches like “information about coffee beans” or “articles on coffee beans”. This will return many results and you will get loads of resources to work with. Simply rewrite in your own words on what you find relevant and put that into a new article. Before you know it, you have written a brand new article on “coffee beans”.

Chill Out: Have a break. Whether you go for a walk, a snooze, read a book or exercise, you will find taking your focus away from your Writers Block will actually help you to reconnect.

Search Your Hard Drive: Most of us have tons of stuff on our hard drives collecting dust. Often information we have paid good money for is simply just sitting there. Browse all the relevant folders to inject a spark of creativity.

Look at Your Competition: Take a look at the ad copy of your competition. Often this will help you to get organized with some new ideas. But please: don’t copy and paste.

Take the time to write your own content. The search engines will love you for it and so will the competition. You might find they will visit you in return when writers block hits them instead.

Writers block is not permanent. In most cases it only lasts for a couple of hours. If you find yourself stuck, then don’t try too hard. Simply have a rest.
