How To Apply The Power Of Copywriting To Our Business

The way we write copy determines on how we do business on the Internet. It has an immediate effect on whether we convert our prospects successfully, or whether we lose them before we even have a chance to build a relationship with them. Why a relationship you might ask? Well, it’s all about building trust between You the marketer and your prospect, the potential customer. If your prospects don’t learn to trust you, then they will certainly NOT buy from you. It’s really as simple as that!

Another important fact is that writing effective copy allows us to reduce our advertising costs, which can add extensively to our bottom line profits.

Whatever the website you have and the copy you own, there is ALWAYS room for improvement. Look for ways to improve your sales-copy at all times and never get complacent.

So if your current copy does not work, have a look at the suggestions I have:

Is your headline speaking to their emotions? When we hit that nerve in the brain of our prospects, it will trigger an emotional response on their behalf which in turn will get them to act there and then.

To stimulate those emotions we need trigger words. The following have been proven to be very effective and applied smart will increase your opt in rate tenfold.

Having said that, we need to look at using these words wisely and in doing so, we can create copy that will truly speak to people’s emotions and make them fell like we talk personally to them as if we were in the same room.

Before we actually start writing a compelling headline, we need to establish a couple of things first:

Who is our prospect? That has to be determined by the product we want to offer and is a very important question to ask yourself BEFORE you start

What is their foremost problem? Do they need more money? Are they wanting and needing to lose weight? What is their hindrance in moving forward and addressing those needs, what keeps them turning in circles, etc.

That will then determine what to offer them in order to either gain pleasure or avoid pain!

Once we know the answer to those questions, we need to find out, how to hit their hot button according to the structure of our copy we just established. So how the heck are we going to do this? Let me tell you;” it’s not about pushing our product onto them smack bang; as this will get them running and you will never see them again. Just because we think that our product is perfect for them doesn’t mean they think so too.

I know from personal experience of wasting thousands of advertising dollars trying to funnel people through my prefabricated MLM affiliate website, just to get them interested in my opportunity. Little did I know that was the worst thing I could have done to pretty much send me toward bankruptcy? I definitely had to learn the very hard way. It has taken me months of learning and studying the masters of the craft to know that writing great copy is “the only way” of making good money on the internet without leaving a fortune on the table in the process!

We need to speak to them directly by addressing their problems and needs. But how can we do this, when we try to get thousands interested in our product/opportunity?

Solutions

We describe the “problem” the way they experience it. They need to feel, that we understand, were they are coming from and were they are standing. Only then have we got a chance at establishing some kind of relationship with them.

The prospect has to perceive the information we are about to hand out to them to be of higher value, then handing us their contact information. We have to give them information which is useful to them.

Use Bullet points

Give them reasons of why a specific way will help them to; how to make money, how to save time, how to minimize effort, how to improve health, how to improve their pleasure, how to decrease pain and put these in bullet points.

Another great copy secret is to incorporate Envy into the actual copy article; whether to make them envy of you, or point them toward something they are envy of will engage their greed gene. Most of us want what the others have and if that is making them rich, then we want in on their success. So using clever words to spark their envy by not having this fantastic product, will most certainly work their hot button right then!

Presenting of your Real estate

You can apply the following suggestions on web pages, squeeze pages, blogs or print media, it doesn’t matter. What you need to realize is that you own a valuable piece of real estate either online or offline. If you work this to your advantage, the money in your valet and your marketing skills will grow immensely.

Please understand that presenting a webpage for example is like presenting a house on open day. The house interior or decoration is in direct relation to the flow of the website.

And the words you speak as a real estate owner is in direct relation to your copy on your site. It has a lot to do with using proper styling, psychology and intellect.

When the real estate agent is trying to sell a house he uses all sorts of “trickery” to attract a buyer. He gets the owner to display fresh flowers, bake bread for a lovely smell through the house, play soothing music, gets the garden looking ship shape and whatever else he can to make the “real estate” more attractive to the prospective buyer.

The same principles apply to our online and offline marketing strategies. For the purpose of this report I will use a web page as an example.

Pre-header

Don’t ever use testimonials in your pre-header. It will distract from your primary message and will only compete with your actual headline. Use smaller font than in your headline and make it different eg.georgia. I choose to use black font and highlight and underline as well as make some words bold. But be careful, you don’t want to make it look like a Christmas tree in full bling ;-)

Headline

Your headline has to stand out; use big font, but keep it simple, red font in Tahoma is a great look and seems to out pull most others. Here you need to convince your prospects of the ultimate benefits to the problems you want to solve for them. Remember, the first impression counts the most and you have only one chance here of grabbing their attention so they read on with eyes glued to the page.

Opener or sub headline

Use a story here, a quick intro, a promise or a claim, break it into a small paragraph and make certain that this compliments your headline in order not to confuse the reader. This should also be written in a smaller font than the headline (half the size seems to work well) and should be same as pre-header e.g. Georgia and black. Keep it simple and don’t use underlined or bold font here. This would only distract from the actual headline. Remember it is supposed to be complimentary to it.

Proof

Here you implement testimonials from happy users, maybe a media release or a newspaper article if you are using an untested new product and haven’t got any testimonials yet, or you could interview a professional in the field and in return he/she can advertise their services with a little bio about themselves. This seems to work well with many successful marketers.

Offer

The actual offer needs to be written in the best compelling and most beneficial way of what they will be getting. And how this product can benefit them in their ventures. Your prospects need to convince You of being allowed to buy your product by now. They can’t wait to pull their cards and make the purchase or order. If you can achieve this, then these people will be butter in your hands and you will have mastered one of the greatest gifts on earth in marketing  writing effective copy

Bullet points

Use them to specify ways of applying or using the actual product, what does it allow you to do easier, faster, better…

Guarantee Box

If you want to increase your conversion rates, this is a MUST. If you don’t offer a guarantee for a specific time frame refund if they are not happy with your product, you will leave tons of profits in cyberspace. Yes, some people WILL take advantage of you and will ask for a refund, even though they love the product, but you need to just get over them and not be fussed. Your bottom line will still benefit from applying this section! And you will establish some kind of credential, especially if you are a newcomer and not well known in the internet marketing world.

PS and PPS at the end of the Copy
Watch what the big marketers are doing with this and you will understand that this is a must for addressing your prospects feelings of missing out on some fantastic deal, if they don’t act right now.
