Unless you are 100 % passionate about writing, you will find it very hard to free the writer within.

Writing is about passion, passion for the subject you write about. You don’t need to be an expert to write about a topic, but a measured amount of passion will engage your readers and keep them reading. If you lack that passion, your written word will come across as boring and send your readers to sleep. To free the writer within you need to want to write full stop. Don’t kid yourself because you think it is cool to write.

One great step towards freeing the writer within is to partake in a writer’s school. This can be done in many places. You might have seen those flyers in your letterbox asking you to sign up for a writer’s course? You can do these courses by attending lectures at university, TAFE or even from home.

The opportunities are endless and if you struggle with writing and want to free the writer within, then doing a writers course is a great idea to get your writer’s juices flowing.

Another popular way to free the writer within is to read more. No, I’m certainly not kidding. If it weren’t for the thousands of books I read so far, I would never be able to write so well in the English language. My mother tongue is actually German.

So don’t get turned off by thinking I’m no English speaking native. It doesn’t matter. If I can do it, then so can you! I read many books and magazines, even the TV magazine. I reckon I might be addicted to reading, as whatever written word comes my way, it will be read. So get reading and help to free the writer within.

We looked at taking a writers course and reading more to free the writer within. What else can we do? In my opinion the surest fire way to free the writer within is to practice the craft of writing. Nothing can shape our writing style more than writing often. Regardless of the topic and the place, the more we write – the better we get. I got the idea for this article from an actual flyer in my mail and it took me all but 20 minutes to knock up this article. I don’t mention this to brag. I consider myself to be an intermediate writer at this stage and have lots to learn still. But I love what I’m doing and am excited about my journey in how to free the writer within.
