Writing Effective Email Ad Copy
Email advertising, is not dead, in spite of what many people think. However,
the art of writing effective email ad copy seems to be dying a slow death. It
seems that most of the email ads I get in my in box are nothing but junk and
very poorly written. Hopefully, this article will alert you to some of the do's
and don’ts of writing email ad copy so that you actually have a chance of
making a few sales. To accomplished that much
means that we have done the job right of writing effective email copy.
The biggest turn off of email copy is when subjects
are full of hype. People are sick and tired of the "Make $10,000 in 10
Days" subjects. People on the internet are more educated these days and know
that these emails are nothing but hype and simply chuck them in the trash.
Also, subjects like "You've Been Paid" are really ticking people off
because when they open them and realize that they haven't been paid, they just
chuck them in the trash in anger. Marketing email copy this way is certainly
not a smart way to writing effective email ad copy.
You want your subjects to be original, not full of hype, but interesting. Don't
be afraid to use subjects like "There's something
About Your Site That You MUST
Know" People are going to wonder. What is wrong with my site? Is there a problem?
Did I do something wrong? Is it even still on the Internet? These
kinds of subjects are going to spark their curiosity without resorting to hype.
It isn’t helpful to be deceptive when trying to gain customers. Be original but
be honest. It will pay in the long run. Effective email copy will bring you long-term
customers who will learn to trust you and who will stay loyal.
The body of your email shouldn’t contain a
sales pitch first of. Allow your prospective customer time to get to know you
first. Once they know your story they are more inclined to trust you. You can
even use jokes. It loosens the atmosphere. Don't
be so darn serious all the time. You know what they say; you can catch more
flies with honey than with vinegar. Keep it light, but get the point across.
One very big problem that people have when trying
to write effective email ad copy is that they don't pay attention to spam
trigger words. You can't load up your emails with words and phrases like
"make money" or "guaranteed income." These
phrases and words will trigger off the spam filters on many email accounts and
your ad will ultimately not even get delivered. So run your ad through a spam
checker. There are plenty of free ones online.
They're all basically the same. Just pick one
and use it.
You also don't want your email ad copy to scream “you are dumb” at your prospective
customers. They certainly are NOT
and by being honest with them and getting your message across at the same time
you will have effective email ad copy that will go a long way. Respect your customers
like you expect to be respected!
