To get started accepting payment from customers you will need a viable merchant account. This will allow you to charger your customer’s credit cards when they make a purchase from you. It also lends an official air of business appeal to your internet home business.

The best way to get started in finding a suitable merchant account is to go to your bank first. Often they can give you the best deal because you are already an existing customer. Naturally they want to keep you in their folds. This can add bargaining power in your favor. It is definitely worth checking out first.

Otherwise you can do a search on Google or any other search engine for “merchant account online” and see whether you find something that will suit your internet home business.

 

A secondary option of a merchant account is Paypal. Paypal can accept all kinds of credit cards on your behalf. 

You can sign up for free with Paypal and if you get accepted by them they will keep a small commission for every transaction they do on your behalf. The money will then be deposited to your bank account from Paypal if you wish.

You will need to go through a 3 step approval process for this, but in my eyes it is well worth it and certainly the cheaper option of the two so far.

Another great feature of Paypal is the option to sell digital products from your website. 

Any internet home business owner knows that selling digital products can be quite profitable. Paypal will allow you to install code on your website. You can send your customers straight to the download page after payment.

 

Auto responders are services that let you send email campaigns legally. With an internet home business we need auto responders to be able to reach more people. 

You might have heard that “the money is in the list” before. What that means is if you place a form on your website for people to opt in, they can opt in to your email campaigns. 

Because of legal reasons those opt in forms need to have a double confirmation from you. Professional auto responder services provide this as a standard feature.

This way the person who wants to send you the information via email will be protected legally if you state you never opted in. The people who end up opting into your campaign are part of your list. As your list of people is growing, so will the opportunity to monetize it. That’s why the money is in the list.

Get used to cleaning up your office desk every day; it will only take a few minutes if you keep on top of things. Using manila folders will enable you to find those customer receipts in a snap.

 

For all the tools we looked at so far we surely missed out on the most important one. What is an internet home business worth without a computer? Pretty much nothing! Whether that is a laptop computer or a desktop computer isn’t really important. What is howeve,r is the way you intend to use your computer! 

If you are frequently on the road, then a laptop computer will certainly be an advantage. If you are looking for more gigs and Ram, then you might be better off with a desktop.

Owing a computer will certainly be the most important tool for your internet home business.

 

But is a computer worth much, if it falls prey to a virus or even worse spyware that will steal your private information? You need to make sure that you are using a valid and respectable “anti virus and spyware software program” when it comes to your computer. Without protection of these you will end up losing important data or even worse, your identity to hackers. Invest your money into a good software program that can help you with this.

 

An internet home business requires you to work on the internet. Dah….that makes sense doesn’t it? So I truly recommend that you get yourself hooked up with a fast internet connection. If you are surfing on dial up, you will only get half of a days worth of work done. It is too slow and would drive me insane. I switched to broadband years ago and haven’t regretted the switch. Broadband is simply the choice of masters of internet home businesses.

 

One of the things I do daily in my internet home business is to check my emails. I use Outlook but have recently installed Mozilla’s Thunderbird. I prefer the Mozilla browser when browsing the internet and will gradually switch to their products. So using an email client that allows me to extract my emails from my internet service provider helps me in saving time. I don’t have to login to my account every time I want to check my inbox. It happens automatically after configuration. I can read my emails anytime during the day and it is quick and easy to reply to business associates.
