Promote Your Home Business

Are you running your own home based business? If you do, then the chances are that you have a website. In order to bring in more business you will need to promote your website. Hereby are a some tips for promoting your home business website that will help to bring you more customers.

Probably the most popular way these days to promote your home business website is to list it with the main search engines. A search engine is an Internet directory that is designed to make your website easier to locate and easier for a potential customer to find and access. Each time a search engine is listing your site, it will include a link to it. If a website is not listed within the first 2 pages (top 20) of the search engines, chances are, it will never be seen by the general public.

A recent survey showed that around 90% of internet users all over the world use search engines to find what they need. If you want to stay competitive in your home business, you will need to take advantage of this tool. The most popular search engines are Google, Yahoo, and MSN. You need to make sure, that you are listed with these first.

Another way you can promote your home business  website is via RSS feeds and blogs. RSS stands for real simple syndication and allows people to subscribe to your updates via a feed reader or email, directly on your site. What that means is, every time you update the content of your site, they will get this (update) delivered directly to them, without having to continuously revisit your site to check if there are new updates.

A blog is just a short way to describe a web log or web diary. Blogging in it’s essence is to write and upload text onto an online diary. Most entries are made daily, but they can also be written weekly or monthly. They should be updated on a regular basis. The best and most popular bloggers are people who write because it is their passion. You can hire someone to write and upkeep a blog for you or you can do it yourself. You can find many websites on the Internet dedicated to blogs.

Have you ever visited a website and noticed a banner at the top of the page? A  banner that was advertising another website?  This is another form that can be utilized to promote your home business website. Lately though banners have gradually become more extinct. But with a proper placement, you can still achieve good traffic even these days.

You can create your own banner with a simple paint program, for example with Photoshop. If you want to animate the banner, you can do a search for a free software program to do this yourself. There are also banner exchange websites on the Internet. These will allow you to place your banner on their website. These exchanges are pretty easy to participate in, however, these types of methods will not let you pick and choose who you want to trade with. Unless you pay for them!

More ways to advertise your home business website is via opt-in mailing lists by giving your readers a free present. An important note by admin: Bulk emailing is the practice of sending mass quantities of emails without a double opt-in entry. This is considered Spam and is highly illegal. If you send unsolicited email to people that do not want commercial email, you will run the risk of getting your website shut down. This will get you into trouble with your ISP. In the worst case scenario you might even have a full court case on your hands by doing this.

It is best for you to use targeted direct email. This means that you will be sending your email to people that have approved to receive your emails. Or alternatively they have opt into your list via a form on your website. These approved messages will be delivered to your prospects via an autoresponder. Subscribers have the authority to unsubscribe any time if they no longer want to receive your emails. There are many autoresponder service providers on the Internet that offer this type of service to you and are definitely worth checking out. The most widely known and popular one with the big marketers would probably be Aweber.
