Structuring your DMO

DMO is an expression I learned in my network marketing days. It stands for “daily method of operation” and is in effect a written plan of your intentions. Many people don’t use a DMO and wonder why they missed out on achieving the most important things they set out to do in any given day. Do you use a DMO? If yes, how is it structured? Are you using hourly time limits, or do you prioritize by task? There are many ways to structure a DMO right. It has to work for YOU and I found that this is actually the biggest secret in not only writing a DMO, but also accomplishing the tasks I set out to do.

You might know what I mean when I say that I tried and failed many times to follow someone else’s DMO only to find that I failed miserably to achieve my targets. I was wondering, why I was so weak in following a supposedly simple plan? I didn’t get it. I beat myself up about it on many occasions. I went to bed feeling like a loser and stressing all the while about the whole thing. Little did I know that to be successful in using a DMO the right way (which means to accomplish tasks) is to tailor the DMO to YOU.

This means looking at your most productive hours in your day. It’s no good after all if you try to get up before work in the morning to accomplish your targets, if you are a late riser by nature. You won’t be in the right mindset to start with and therefore nothing much will happen.
When are you most productive during the day or night? For me it is between 10 PM and 1AM. I find that during those hours I’m undisturbed and my creativity is at its best. But it doesn’t matter, as long as you understand your cycles and plan those into your DMO.

Having looked at cycles and how they can either help us or hinder us in achieving things we also need to understand that those alone won’t make us a great DMO plan accomplisher. We also need to find out what our biggest distractions are when we are working at home. It could be any of the following and more: kids, partners, surfing the Internet mindlessly without a plan, forums, learning too much without taking action, work hours. These were just a few that popped into my head while writing this. I’m sure you know best what your biggest distractions are. After acknowledging this, you can turn it around to your advantage by implementing ways to deal with those distractions. One thing that worked for me is to achieve my DMO first. I write down my monthly targets, then break them down into sections. Before I switch iff my computer at night, I normally write down my list for the next day. I follow this list to my best ability and find that 9 out of 10 times that I’m actually able to cross things off now. Opposed to the old days when it was the other way around. Once I achieve my targets for the day,(and only then) I allow myself time to do all the time wasting but fun things such as surfing, forum posting (which is also a great website promoter) and research.

Initially this will take some dedication from you. But it is worth every single piece of dedication, sweat and anxiety. By allowing yourself to be disciplined in a certain way in following a DMO you will be able to achieve double or even triple your existing workload.
The best part of this is, that you will find a new sense of achievement which will propel you to new heights.

How true – some days getting on top of a “to do” list actually happens! Then it’s time to make another one…

I also had to change my strategies for a effective dmo. After losing a lot of time doing tasks that weren’t necessary, I managed to turn my dmo into a strategic missile. As a direct result my team has grown in bounds and leaps. Good article Monika

It’s seems everywhere I’ve been lately, I run across the phrase “in my network marketing days”.

I’d love to know exactly what percentage of IM’ers have been in MLM at one point or another.

BTW, I borrowed your name style from your post at another blog. :)
