Use CopyScape to Protect Your Integrity

If you are a writer whose purpose is to submit articles to article directories, then you need to know about Copyscape if you are using PLR materials. PLR articles are often given away on free membership sites to unsuspecting writers. They sign up in the hopes of having made a great discovery, only to find that their article gets rejected because of plagiarism issues. Plagiarism can ruin a writers business in an instance and is to be taken seriously.

To protect oneself we can run a simple monthly check on Copyscape for free to see whether somebody made unlawful copies of our content. The trouble with PLR articles is that they are given away in the thousands on membership sites. Even knowing the fact that most writers who sign up for these sites never even use these PLR articles, there are still some that do. The biggest mistake these writers can make, is to submit these articles “as is” to article directories. In order to have a unique PLR article a writer should consider to rewrite them totally. Writers can use those articles as frames, but will need to re-do them before they submit them to article directories. If they fail to do this, they will only damage their reputation in the long run.

There is an option to pay under $5 per month and use Copysentry (which is part of Copyscape). This will give you email alerts as soon as there is plagiarized content of your website on the Internet. If you are a writer who does a lot of freelancing work, then you might want to sign up with their professional version for $0.05 per search. This will give you unlimited searches on any copied content of any of your materials on the web. Naturally this is where those who employ writers look for validity of unique content.

    Monika,

I have used google alert for some of my articles and found that one of my ezine articles was copied word for word with no link back. Even though the website is in English, it is Chinese in origin.

I tried to contact them to politely tell them to pull it or give me link credit. The bottom of the webpage says if we’ve violated your copyright, contact us, when I tried to do that it asked for my wordpress security info (I’m definitely not giving them that information.

Do I have any recourse or is this just part of the business you have to deal with sometimes?

@ Medic: That sucks, I’m sorry to hear this happened to you. Unfortunately this is part of running an online business but it doesn’t mean you have to accept it either.

If you go to the following site

    http://www.whoishostingthis.com/

and insert the bad ass’s website URL you can find out who their host is.

Next, contact their host and tell them what happened. If they are reputable they will shut this person down for sure. Good luck!
