Getting Things Done - Keep Your Cool

I used to fret about not getting things done as I had them planned. My to do list grew every day to the point of being ripped up into shreds out of frustration and then the whole process started again. It was hard for me to understand that I couldn’t achieve my intended targets and why I was failing at this when others seemed to blizz through their lists.

Things changed for the better once I started to take a step back and actually look at what was the most important task at the time to get done. I understood that if I didn’t focus on getting the income producing tasks done first, then I would never make money. We can write lists upon lists and prioritize individual tasks to the pint of exhaustion. But if we don’t understand the importance of doing the tasks that are privy to our business first, we will turn in circles indefinitely.

What helped me is to filter out what makes me money in my business. I came up with the following list:

• Designing my own website
• Running my own Blogs which I update most days
• Learning the importance of socializing and networking
• Using web 2.0 to enhance my business
• Applying for freelance writing jobs
• Setting priority to paying assignments on a daily basis
• Frequenting social networking sites to make new contacts
• Helping others to achieve success

This list is what got me started in turning my time constraints around to make more time for those tasks that actually mattered to me and my business. So instead of writing a daily to do list (which will only end up in the shredder) I now write my targets out for the following months. By sticking with my most urgent priorities such as writing articles and blog posts for clients first I have the peace of mind to do what I please after without feeling guilty.
