Do Follow - I do

As a blogger we have two choices. We can either choose to grow our business as an anonymous identity or else we can create new friendships, contacts and a huge network of people who respect us by being honest and showing what we are all about. I have chosen to take the second choice, not only because I have nothing to hide, but more so for the fact that since I have become a regular blogger I have met so many fantastic people online that are more than willing to help me if need be.

By networking we can not only build great business relationships, but we can also make great friends that might lead into future JV ventures. Social networking is huge and will not loose its appeal quickly.

Because of all that and because I am really a nice person ;-) I have installed the “do follow” plugin. These days Word Press blogs normally have the “no follow’ attribute installed by default. What this means is that if others comment on your blog, it might well link back to their site through the signature. But the search engines won’t follow the link by indexing it. By installing the “do follow”plugin it will allow search engines to crawl my comment sections and link straight back to your site. It is a win win situation for you and me. My aim is to double the comments on this blog and grow it from there. It is a challenge I have set myself for the month of September.

I believe without setting ourselves challenges, we cannot grow. It is a constant flow of action. So please, do join the “do follow” movement and start building your comments.

What do you do on your blog? Do you “follow” or not? What is your opinion about the “do follow” movement? I would love to hear from you and remember I “do”.

That’s funny (funny strange, not funny haha).

I just posted on my blog about a serious problem that spammers could cause you and actually mentioned the safety net of the nofollow attribute! Ok, it is more useful for non-techie bloggers who wouldn’t know how it works.

But for those that do there is the moderation safety net to stop any spammers commenting on your blog anyway. It is on that point that I agree 100% with you that the nofollow attribute is totally unnecessary and can actually cause harm to bloggers.

Why?, Well, it prevents the normal flow of comments and creating that community feel because a lot of bloggers won’t go to the trouble of leaving a good, well written comment because they probably feel, “hey it’s not worth it without the sweetener of a back-link”.

Monika, I will follow you ;) in installing the dofollow plugin on my blogs too and I’ll also blog about them to spread the word!

    Excellent news Terry,

I agree with you regarding the moderation of any comments. I always moderate mine and I think everybody should. Even with anti spam plugins, sometimes I also get a spam one trying to sneak through as a normal looking comment.

    Monika :-)

I’m starting to get a few like that - I can tell them as they always use the same copied and pasted text for every comment - including spelling mistakes! How ignorant.

What annoys me is that some of them come from members of myblolog who should know better!

    Terry :D

I use this plugin too and don’t get the nofollow thing in general. I get why they wanted it for, but now its being abused imho. I think it is great to give commentors some link love. I also do moderate my comments for all new commentors. Overall that has been the best setup so far.

    Sarah,

I know what you mean. Its cool to see you doing it as well. I see more and more blogs these days who do decide to participate for the link love and no follow movement and it is great for the community.

I also agree. I’ve installed the Lucia’s Linky Love plugin. It’s really great for do follow.

Have you looked at the community AnyBeard has set up for no-follow do-follow on bumpzee?

You should check out the “Lucia’s Linky Love” plugin as Heather mentioned…it allows you to give the link juice only after someone has posted on your blog after a certain number of times. But, then again, maybe you are just good like that.

    Thanks Jason,

I have actually forgotten to check it out after Heather’s mention.I’ll have a look tonight.

I have big plans for this blog in the near future so i might have to peruse that one.
    We’ll see
