Mind Map Tutorial on Blogging

Posted by Monika in Free Cool Tools, ... | 09.17.2007 - 9:32 pm

Ok, this is an idea I’ve had when I heard about mind maps the other day. I knew about the concept of brainstorming, but so far I was only familiar with the off line version of scribbling and drawing circles.

So when I came across this useful and free tool, I went ahead and created a mind map for those looking to start a Blog but having no idea how to. This tutorial will go into the draw over at BlueJar for Sarah’s contest. I’m not even looking to win, I’ve had so much fun doing this map and hopefully you will have fun too by studying it - and applying. I have published the map and you can look at it in a new browser window for ease of navigation.

How To Launch a Blog

It is my first ever virtual mind map and think I will use this a lot in the future. I reckon it could also provide a great platform for communicating and brainstorming with a JV partner, especially if they are in a different time zone. Because it allows users to share the site in collaboration, which means you can invite others to partake in your mind map and build it together.

Mind maps have long been known to help combine the right and the left hand side of our brain. They are about collecting ideas and arranging them in a tree like diagram or circle. By jotting down ideas like this we tend to really let go on our inhibitions which is beneficial for creative energies to flow. But not only that, mind maps are an ever building work of art that can be used to start any new venture.

What I really love about an online application like this one is the fact that I can just clip down an idea as it enters my head, without the mess of paper clutter. Plus if I feel like it, I can also share it with others like in this instance.

The image you see on the left was created by Aranya under a GNU Free Documentation License.

It is a hand drawn mind map and is an inspiring tool to encourage us to scribble. Kind of like going back to childhood.

If you feel drawn to this particular method of mind mapping, then you can do so free of charge by visiting here.

I would love to get some feedback from anybody who reads this message in regards to mind maps and what you think about them. Would you use them yourself too? Let me know.

Enjoy your creative freedom

Monika :-)

Mind Map Tutorial on Blogging…

Mind maps are a great way to help us in brainstorming new ideas. So far we have been used to scribbling them onto paper, but with the possibility of online applications scribbling and brainstorming has just become easier and much more fun….

Can I suggest a few more? I like Mind42, it’s neat and simple, but there are other web-based mind mapping programs for different tastes and needs, mostly having some free option, like bubbl.us, bubble-mind.com, comapping.com, glinkr.net, kayuda.com, mapul.com, mindomo.com and mindmeister.com

And there are free generic diagramming tools that can do mind maps, like gliffy.com and flowchart.com.

I use computer mind maps extensively every day. I write about a lot of this on my own blog. I found your mind map to be a good overview of what’s involved in starting a blog.

My favorite web-based mind mapping tool so far is mindmeister with bubbl.us as a close second.

It would be nice if Mind42 changed the cursor when you hovered over a link to make it more obvious what to click on.

Hey Arthur,

I appreciate your feedback on this. I will definitely have to check out your suggested links too. ;-)

As for the cursor issue, I do think that they might improve on this as time goes by. As I understand they are still in Beta, so now doubt with enough feedback they might look into this.

Vic,

Thanks for the great and extensive list you provided. I love it when my readers help to list additional resources.

That’s what i love so much about the Internet. It is the sharing of combined knowledge that helps others in the process.

Thank you

Monika :-)

I’ve known about mind maps for years, but have never tried them out. Seeing your result though, I think I will give them a go and see what I can do. I just need to find a project to use them on now… do you think they can be used in language learning?

MDB,

I reckon they can be used in language learning and anything else for that matter. You should really give this a go as it is a lot of fun. I’ve had so many ideas while doing the map, it was a full on brainstorming session. :-)

Dee, I appreciate your comment and I would also recommend to give this a go, you will love it no doubt. :-)

Thank you for stopping by everybody

Mind42 looks like quite a cool mindmapping software to use.

Anyone looking for a free offline mindmapping software can use one called Freemind. Just google it and you should be able to find it.

Thanks Jonathan,

BTW Mind42 is also free to use. But since i haven’t tried the other one mentioned i can’t make a comparison. I’m sure there are quite a few out there that are good.

Thanks
