Connecting the Dots

When doing any kind of project or work it is important that we stop from time to time and connect the dots. It is easy to forget what we intended to do in the first place as so many new tasks surface pretty much daily. Therefore I suggest that you step back a little from time to time and see where you currently are, and where you are headed.

Probably the biggest challenge of all whilst doing business on the Internet is to stay firm against distractions of all kind. This can be quite hard, especially on days when we are really tired. It would be so easy to just pull the plug and let it go.

So taking stock of our next step is a great motivator as well as letting us feel back in control again.

I set myself a daily target every day. For 4 days it is working all day on the Internet doing all my freelance work, blogging, social networking and marketing. 2 days still work in my J-O-B and Sundays is my day off. dedicated to me and my husband. I still post my blog entries and do a bit of maintenance work, but that’s about it.

Here is what I do, when I struggle with time because something unexpected comes up:

  • I take my notes for the day and crunch them up and throw them into the bin. :-)
  • Seriously, I’m a bit of a list girl and I can’t stand to see a half finished list at the end of the day. Son when I know that I can’t finish my daily list, I just rewrite it and put some tasks onto the next list. Naturally that can and has been getting out of hand, until…
  • I started to be consequential about really putting my head down to do what I have to do - in order to get to where I want to be. So all the above is pretty much a necessity. I just cut down on reading other blogs and commenting on them. I don’t stop it - but I cut down.
  • I also remember to take a breath of air every now and then and relax.

Because when I’m stressed out I’m not achieving anything at all so I rather loose 30 minutes a day. This will allow me to re-connect the dots and keep going with renewed sense of vigor.

How do you connect your dots?

Wishing you all a great weekend
