Widget Problem and How To Fix It

Posted by Monika in Tech, ... | 10.04.2007 - 5:32 pm

Have you recently upgraded to the latest Word Press version 2.3. If you do, then you might have a fatal error problem within your admin section. It would look something like the following whenever you try to activate the widget plugin.

/home/user/public_html/wp-includes/widgets.php:15) in

/home/user/public_html/wp-content/plugins/widgets.php on line 22

To counteract this problem you will need to check whether your “plugins” folder contains a “widget plugin”. To check this you can use your FTP program and navigate to the plugin folder.

Next you will need to totally delete this widget folder. The reason being is that the new Word Press version supports widget automatically, so you won’t need a separate plugin anymore. By having this sitting there from a previous version it will interfere with the new version and therefore return the fatal error.

Once you have deleted the widget from your system you will be able to use the them via your “presentation” navigation again.

Warning: Only follow these steps if you have the problem in the first place and if you do run the latest version of Word Press. You can see the version you are currently running by scrolling to the bottom of the page in your Word Press Dashboard section.

Also should you still need to upgrade, then consider the plugin I mentioned in one of my earlier posts. Be sure to de-activate all plugins prior to the upgrade and then re-activate once you’re done.

Hope this helps

Monika
