What’s the go with everybody freaking out about the imminent Page Rank update with Google? I have been looking at various forum and blog posts in the last few weeks and everywhere people seem to freak out on what’s happening. Common, take a chill pill and stop putting so much weight on the Page Rank number. Isn’t the fact that we need to write good content more important than having this almighty number displayed in our tool bars.
I really start to wonder what matters more. We as bloggers should start to recognize other blogs for their valuable content and NOT because it has a high Page Rank assimilated with it. It doesn’t mean that the blog is any better anyway. It will only provide an added opportunity to make more money by being more attractive to advertisers.
It’s not that I don’t care at all about getting it or not myself. But I really don’t worry about it as I’m confident my Rank will grow over time if I keep doing what I have done for the last 6 month. Namely write good content, update often, network and work on building back links to my blog.
Sure I could fret about it and stop enjoying what I currently love doing. But what is the point really? Some of the big boys have long lost their appeal to me. Honestly there are only a couple of top blogs I regularly read because the blog owners are still writing good content. The rest - I really don’t care what they do.
How do you feel about Page Rank? Should we worry or relax and let things take its course? I’d love to hear your voice too.
Cheers
Monika

I don’t want to care about PR, but the fact is it is a gauge used by advertisers to determine the advertising value of your site/blog, so it does weigh in a certain amount. That said, it is well true to concentrate on the content. If there is continued quality content, the readership should grow. And if we leverage on the strength of the readership (+resultant traffic) then the value would also increase, regardless of PR. I created my post on PR because of the contradiction shown by Google in their actions.
Now it’s finding the balance between good content, and ways around the traditional measurements for how well your blog’s standing in the blogosphere is. We need to think out of the box now and not depend on any one standard.
I do agree. Good content is what counts especially for your regular readers. PR will come with time, just keep at it.
YC: Well spoken, I do like the fact on what you are saying about thinking outside the box. I also think that the more weight we put n Google as a leader in determining who ranks best, the worse it is for all concerned.
They really need a good contender to take them of their throne.
John: Thanks John, that’s what I intend to do.
