It’s getting to a point in my blogging where I find it increasingly annoying to write and publish blog posts without having to spend ages shuffling things around so that in the end the posts look good on the eye.
In some blogs I created tables which looked good in the WP admin section, only to find once posted live, they went all skewered on me. As I’m not a coder that can change things quick and easy, I often take a lot longer to adjust these things. Even my previous attempts of learning CSS have flawed so far as at the moment I don’t have the time. (It is however still on my to do list)
So when Gobala Krishnan advised me of using Windows Live Writer I knew I had to give it a shot. Judging by the simplicity of usage I’m silly for not having done so any earlier.
Setting up accounts for individual blogs is dead easy and won’t take long after the initial download.
I had to configure my blog accounts and launch Live Writer. The beauty about this tool is that it gives me so much more control when writing a new post. Publishing is as easy as clicking on the “publish” tab.
Options to insert pictures, tags, maps, tables, hyperlinks, video and more exist. I suppose this also depends on what plugins you have installed on your blog. There is also an option to add plugins and I’m still plying around getting familiar with the whole thing right now. The Beta Version has only been released for a bit over a month I belief.
I also liked the fact that I can now insert images with ease. There are many ways to style the border and frames of the image and it looks already a lot cleaner for now. I’m still yet to publish the post and I guess I see the difference when I do.
Ok so here it goes…..Monika

Monika-
Windows live writer is something which has made my blogging life very easy. Good to know that you have started using live writer.
Yes Shivaranjan,
I am very impressed for the first attempt. The post looks a lot cleaner in terms of white space and the layout and if I can figure out how to put them in the right category while writing, I shall be very happy indeed with it.
You can see the list of available category towards the bottom of live writer.
Are you able to schedule posts ahead of time using WLW? I’ve been meaning to try this out, but I generally write my posts at least a week prior to publishing so I haven’t given it a try yet.
[...] Therefore, it was little wonder that I’ve decided to take Monika’s advice and give the Windows Live Writer a try. I’ll write a post about it once I’ve tried it [...]
Kyle,
Yes you can. You won’t be able to set a specific time, but if you post your draft entry say at 12 noon and set the inbuilt function to posting in 2 days time, then it will publish your draft at 12 noon in two days time.
This is awesome as now we have the ability to work ahead for the weekend or maybe even holidays and our blog won’t have to suffer from post delay.
I hope this helps
Monika
WLW is great for most things - and it does things like adding categories which other tools cannot do.
But the sole concern is the invalid XHTML code that it renders. That’s why I am still waiting for WLW update.
