Blogging Heroes

What determines a blogging hero to you? Is it the popularity by which the blogger is received, or is it the amount of comments the blogger gets on each of his posts. Maybe it is to do with the fame ranking attached to the blogger, or even the page rank he so proudly displays on his blog.

Really, for each of us this probably varies to a certain degree. What remains a common fact I believe is that we all have blogging heroes. You might look up to a blogger because he/she became famous overnight. It makes you think about the intricacies of fame and how we rate people/bloggers because of what they do.

Sometimes this is a very scary thought!

So, do you rate bloggers because of their fame? Do you just visit and comment on famous blogs in the hopes of getting some nifty exposure and traffic?

Or do you rate bloggers because of their witty writing style, regardless of their rank and fame?

Maybe you simply value the context of which the blog is written about. It could be a field that you are particularly interested in and want to learn more about.

It could be either or a mixture of all the above!

I tell you what my blogging heroes are and why I deem them worthy enough to be included in this list. And before I list all the bloggers I want to make one thing clear.

I don’t idolize anybody. I believe that I am as worthy a person and blogger as anybody on this list because I am who I am. As you can gather I do have a healthy self respect and I know what my strengths are and also my weaknesses. It hasn’t always been like this you know. It took me years to accept the fact that I’m simply human with the good and the bad.

These bloggers aren’t my heroes because I look up to them regarding status or fame. Far from it actually, I respect each one of them for a special character trait I value. You will see what I mean by this. They are simply bloggers like you and me and they particularly managed to touch me in some way.

They stood out to me from the rest and are part of my blogging journey without even knowing about it! These guys inspire me in some way and have done so for a while. I truly hope that you will also find some inspiration within this list.

The following list is an overview of the traits for which I value each of these bloggers. Those traits are listed behind their names. Enjoy

Terry – trusted friend and JV partner, great communicator, great writer

Grizzly – trusted friend, huge knowledge on smart marketing, smart and witty

Gobala – for giving me a chance when nobody knew me, well, still not many know me, but at least all of you do ;- witty personality, great marketer

Sarah – being a blogging angel in disguise, great PHP developer

Maki – branding, great research, in-dept blog posts

Yaro – endurance as a blogger, ability of being a “soft” leader in the blogosphere

Karthik – great blogger, hard working, friend, humor, tech knowledge

YC – great writer, friend, ability to engage readers

John Cow – wittiness, branding, ability to confront

Caroline – ability to get noticed within a short time frame and staying true to herself, great writing skills

Shivaranjan – tech knowledge, hacks

David – great personal development tips, great personality

Chris – freelancer I admire for having accomplished what he has

Court – great blogger, I’m still reading

Sarah – great blogger, nice personality, great blog design

Skellie – recently discovered, love the whole concept, great writing skills

Bonnie – great writer, witty tongue, great friend

Fred – great ability to write catchy headlines

David – great writer love his style

Kevin – great blog with a huge amount of cool writers, never get bored

John – my soul mate, my best friend and the man I love! Also the best chef in the world!

A personal thank you to all of you on this list. You guys are part of my bloggers notepad and even though most of you don’t even know me, I still will be part of you in some ways and visit your blogs again and again.

Monika, I’d like to say – I’m touched.

There have been days when I’ve wondered what my small group of esteemed readers think of the way I write – I believe you’ve summed it up pretty nicely in a few words.

I’m honoured to be in your reader, let alone your hero – thank you so much for all the kind words and I’m sure things are only going to improve :)

I wish you the very best in your endeavours, you deserve every bit of success and fame.

My personal heroes are those that aren’t mainstream. They can take a stand on issues that might potentially get them into trouble, something I’d love to do but sadly have not the guts to do. I also admire bloggers who publish good content, but don’t get many readers and yet persevere in coming up with yet more content.

On another note, I’m a first time reader of your site and I’m liking what I see so far ;)

Karthik: you are too kind. Now you now that others do care and we all deserve to be successful. In time this will come for those who persist. :-)

Shivaranjan: thanks, I’m glad to have you stop over at my place every now and then.

Nish: LOL, trend setting was never my thing.

John Cow: Moo moo glad to make your moom happy. :-)

bLuefRogX: well said and I also agree as many of my heroes aren’t mainstream either. (yet)
I look forward to seeing you back at some stage. Thanks :-)

David: you are welcome. I look forward to many more visits on your blog.

    Monika,

That is a great list and what a nice idea to acknowledge bloggers in that way. There are a few blogs on the list I’ve not been to and so I need to go check them out now. :)

  17. chipseo | Nov 12, 2007 | Reply

I think I probably base my like or dislike on content. Is it appealing to me, topic, design, level of perceived knowledge about their subject matter.

I don’t even need to agree with their opinion on a particular topic, but I think it rarely has to do with how much money they can make on their blog.

Appealing yes, but not my first or second reason I admire their work… I am a big fan of stats though :)

heroes come and go so i usually don’t idolized anyone of them. life is a journey so i just take lesson from anyone that bring the best out me. if we stick to one and hanging to anyone of them sometime it couldn’t let our thought grows.

One of my blogging heroes is Yaro Starak. He has been a big influence on me and his free ebook has made me a much better blogger. I subscribe to his feed and read the site most every day.

Tad: thanks for pointing this out. We actually moved John’s blog the other day to a new host and they forgot to point the URL to the new server.

    It has been rectified now.
