25,000 Words And A Week In A Freelance Writer’s Life

Posted by Monika in Writing, ... | 03.26.2008 - 12:27 am

Phew, what a week this has been for me. I think I could publish a book anytime with the amount of words I typed this past week. Yep, you read correctly. Between all my clients, my blog posts and my clients blogs I typed more than 25,000 words in 7 days.

words in freelance writer life

The reason I’m blogging about this is to show you what is possible when you are insane like me and driven to make up for a previous week of average income.

Overlord of Many - Master of None!

Posted by Monika in Writing, Writing, ... | 03.23.2008 - 2:50 pm

While looking up the definition or teacher and master and idea for another post was born. I wanted to define between teaching and ruling the pack. Where the teacher really has no ulterior motives, the master can in some ways be a very powerful leader.

This could result both into a positive and negative outcome. If we look at history and how past leaders have ruled the pack in an entirely wrong way, it is easy to see how quickly things turn sour. Just look at Hittler and how he managed to murder thousands of people in the process of being an overlord on the dark side.

Let Go Of …!

To Let go could be the best thing you ever did. When we face adversities, stress, uncertainty, feelings of incapability and pressure, we often can’t perform the tasks at hand.

let go

For a writer like me, this would be a major blockage of words. And I mean massive. The frustrating part is, the harder I try to come up with something worthwhile to write about, the less the words flow.

My brain simply freezes.

In this instance letting go of my words would be the best present I can give myself for this moment in time.

The Process of a Business Nip Tuck

Posted by Monika in Writing, Writing, Wr... | 03.20.2008 - 8:21 pm

Doing business can quickly become as boring a job as it would be to work a job for an online employer. When we start out, everything is new and exciting. We launch with excitement, build a website/blog/membership site/forum or whatever else we do to get noticed and help us brand our “thang.”

But then, everyday life settles in and we start to feel rather comfortable without trying to inject some new found youth and glamor.

Use The Pareto Principle To Sack Annoying Clients

Posted by Monika in Writing, Writing, Wr... | 03.12.2008 - 11:56 pm

Have you ever wondered whether working for a particular client was really worth your time and effort? I bet you have. At some stage we all do. We toss up on the good and bad of working for this particular client. The good being instant gratification of income to pay the bills and the bad investing far too much time in return for pay.

pareto law

Being in a situation like this can be enough to wonder what we did wrong during the initial negotiations. Did we perhaps under quote ourselves for fear of not landing the job, only to find that we would have been better off without it anyway?

Freelance Writing Blog Crawl - Round Two

Posted by Monika in Writing, Writing, Wr... | 03.08.2008 - 10:16 pm

During the last month I’ve had the privilege to meet some top people online that are slowly but truly becoming my new online friends. Most of them are also writing freelancers . They own top freelance websites. To this day I never stop to be amazed at how certain bloggers seem to know the difference between respect and blogger etiquette while others (who are well known, mind you) don’t.

I’m not sure what it is with these people. Maybe they think themselves more important than the rest of us mere mortals or they simply don’t care. But the last time I checked, it is common practice and respect for the other blogger to stop by and say thank you for the link when linked to in a post.

My Journey To The Land Downunder

Posted by Monika in Writing, Writing, Wr... | 03.07.2008 - 12:08 am

Australia holds a special place in my heart and all though I grew up in Switzerland, I dreamed of Australia since I was 19 years young. That was 21 years ago. It all started with a friend, moving to this amazing and very spiritual country and I was hooked from the moment he said he was leaving.

home sweet home

I started to “eat” up every book I could find, every TV documentary and every magazine snippet about Australia. I was breathing and living here before I ever stepped foot onto Australia.

A Letter to My Parents

Posted by Monika in Writing, Writing, Wr... | 03.04.2008 - 2:02 pm

This letter was inspired from Christine at Self Made Chick after a comment I made about my parents and how they are “obnoxious and self centered people”. Christine has successfully managed to leave the cubicle of work and carve her own life in the freelancing industry. Something I have personally managed to achieve not so long ago. You can read this in my post Self Employed in 7 Month.
