@ Brett: that sounds like a plan alright. I know what you mean though. Even though I eat crappy food at the moment (LOL) I am happy.

But I know what you mean. Most people struggle to go through life because everything is always the same and there is hardly any more freedom. Doing the same old, same is indeed boring.

That is why I am happy being a writer because the work is so versatile.

@Monika,

I know. I did it for many years myself. And then I noticed something - many of the folks I aspired to be like, are not happy.

They work 10 hours a day. Eat pre-packaged convenience meals. Then go to the gym. Then watch TV in bed. On the weekends, they buy stuff they don't need. And go to parties and tell everyone about the stuff they bought.

*yawn*

I'm going to move to New Zealand. Buy a modest home on an island, and write books in the studio of my cafe. :)

@ Brett: you are welcome. Unfortunately we do this all too often. Comparing ourselves. It took me years myself to get off that self destructing train of thoughts and be happy with my own.

Monika,

This is a good post and I especially like the section "What are we really worth?" - that can be applied to someone working a traditional job as well.

Judge not your self-worth against another who makes more than you do. If you are happy, be happy :)

Thanks for the words today - Brett

@ KG Lew: you are very welcome. Just go with your gut feeling, like Ebele did. It will work out for you and eventually you'll find your niche in terms of rates.

Good luck and let me know if you need help.

@ Ebele: exactly, if we as a writer are not comfortable with our rates and what we work for, then we might as well not bother.

You listened to your gut feeling and it seems to pay off. Good on you. :-)

Once again thanks for sharing some great info and advice... I know that I have been struggling on deciding a good rate for my article writing... I don't want to overcharge, but I don't want to sell myself short... thanks

Monika, Monika

Thank you for this post, hun. I've only been doing the online freelance writing thing since January (and only part-time at that), but I decided early on that I wasn't gonna go for the $0.01/word gigs as I tried it & it made me feel wrong.

And you're right, the market is big enough for all of us - the $0.01/word gigs to the $1.00/word ones - you just have to get in where you feel comfy fitting in.

take care, hun...
