That Magical Number 8
Alright, I have been resisting this post for a few days now because I really didn’t want to go down that road. But now since you’ve asked I can no longer resist and finally take up that cue from Brett about 8 random facts about me that don’t require Kleenex. Well, at least not for his facts, maybe you’ll feel that rushing sense of choking once you read about my magical 8.
But before we get there I really want to make you quiver for it. After all, I’m giving away top secrets about “moi”. I mean, hello. Normally that would cost you dearly. At least a good meal and a bottle of (insert your favorite beverage here)…
Umhh, let’s say a good bottle of red accompanied by some tasty cheese and fresh French baguette.
*major salivation happening right now.
Did you know that the number 8 is actually considered a lucky number by the Chinese. See for yourself when you read Wikipedia’s excerpt take on the number 8 and what it it really means:
Eight
The word for “eight” in Chinese (Pinyin: bÄ) sounds similar to the word which means “prosper” or “wealth” (å‘ – short for “å‘è´¢”, Pinyin: fÄ). In regional dialects the words for “eight” and “fortune” are also similar, eg Cantonese “baat” and “faat”.
There is also a resemblance between two digits, “88″, and the shuang xi (‘double joy’), a popular decorative design composed of two stylized characters å–œ (xi, ‘joy’, ‘happiness’).
To find out my special 8 unusual traits I actually had to make up half of them since I’m really not that interesting.
*she says and shuts the shutters to the herd of paparazzi in front of her house.
My, you make this real hard on me you know Brett. It took me all weekend and then some more to come up with something usable that reflected halfway that I am indeed a mature and interesting person (even though it doesn’t look that way right now).
Since you asked, here it is without further ado:
- Have you ever enjoyed a good glass of red with the sensuous taste of chili chocolate? I’m not kidding, it is a good substitute to lonely nights without hubby.
- I’m really a closet Pagan. While I never liked the idea of church and religion as a teenager and young adult, I was also unable to point the finger on why I hated the word god so much. At the same time I’m spiritual and believe that this is one of the reasons why I ended up here in Oz rather than Antarctica. The country’s prefix is spirituality in my eyes.
- I’m also really a cool person to be around. But only to my closest friends. I have the tendency to clam up with strangers or new acquaintances until I know for sure that they can be trusted.
- My favourite color is purple and I adore buddha without the religious bit, but since I also love yoga, buddha holds a special meaning to me.
- When I can’t be found online I normally like to paint, scrapbook, go for long walks, slouch on the couch, read, read some more and read even more than that, enjoy quality time with my soul mate husband, do the same with my darling birds, have a great time with friends or sleep.
- Even though I often come across as shy, I’m really an extrovert and a clashing ego at that, since I’m as comfortable speaking in front of 5,000 people than I am meditating in a quiet matter. No kidding. Sometimes I think there are two of me living within my body.
- My dream destination is Bora Bora (we nearly went there for our honeymoon and then something came up. Oh well, there is always time to go one day.
- I am also an avid traveler and have caught the travel bug since I was 16. Did you know that where I live right now is the longest I have ever been in one location? Yawn! I know, shocking and to be honest I am getting itchy feet thanks to Lea Woodward who re-lit my flame for travel and being a free spirit.
So there you go. 8 amazing truths about moi.
Warning: this post was written under the influence of chili chocolate and red wine. No responsibility will be taken by the author of the post.
Ahem, yes I also forgot to add the end to this post, but since I am really really pushed to write this anyway, I thought it best to just leave it at that. Plus I can’t in the name of me think about 8 people who would take this up and actually be as silly as me. Sorry Brett.

Monika,
Some of the best writing is done whilst under the influence of chili chocolate and red wine!
Thanks for sharing, this was a really great list my friend. And it’s actually probably a good idea that you *didn’t* put a list of folks at the end, because like most chain letter type things, they end up coming back to you…

@ Brett: Hehehe…not sure about the best, but certainly having had fun whilst typing this. You wouldn’t believe it though I really had to rack my brains.
As for chain letter thingys and blog chain posts, i really don’t like them and usually ignore them, but for you my friend and thanks to red wine and chili chocolate it all happened anyway.

@ Abhijeet: hey, a fellow Yogi. How cool is that. I’m bound to go off on a three day Yoga weekend soon and so look forward to this as it will get my creaky bones back into gear.

@Monika,
Oh, I know what you mean, when I did mine I really put some thought into it…
I hear you. I normally wouldn’t do them either, so I appreciate you taking a stab at it this time
(I only did it last week as I didn’t have anything to write that day, and it was different!)
I didn’t have anything to write today either, but that’s because I was busy last night on a new business venture.

Yeah, I had fun playing Brett’s game too…but cutting and pasting all those links and then going on all the other people’s sites and saying they’ve been tagged! Geez, that took a long time.
Damn you, Brett
I am the most anti-Yogic person on the planet. I cant’ stretch, I’m totally inflexible. If I took up yoga, I’d break something.
But I reach my Zen moments other ways…when I go fishing, for example.

@ Grizzly: I knew somebody would ask. LOL. Chili chocolate is actually chili flavored chocolate.
I realize that you’d be hard pushed to find this in your neck of the woods. Perhaps they offer bear-chocolate paws or griz cups.
The company that manufactures these is called Lindt & Spruengli a true Swiss favourite.
I tell you what, I’ll take some with me to Vegas, so you can taste it. How about it?

@ Friar: hey, fishing is way cool. Although I really only enjoy it on the high seas, not from the shores which seems to be popular everywhere here.
Hahaha for your yoga joke. I can just imagine you trying to do yoga with a Viking helmet. LOL

I am right with you on the chili chocolate with red wine. Have you ever tried the Mexican dish, chicken with chili choc sauce? Delish.
I did know that the #8 was lucky here in China (am in HK right now as I type this)…but even knowing that, I have only just realised – having seen all the posters round here – that’s why they were so keen to get the 2008 Olympics and also why it starts on 08/08/08. Duh.
