You Didn’t Know It – But I’m a Rhyming Poet!
Instead of writing a post for you today I got creative to engage my “other” brain cells for some fun. I wrote the following rhythmic poem in 15 minutes. When I was younger, my former boss and I made up many impromptu rhymes in my native tongue while working in the kitchen. That always ended up with a lot of laughter and many creative inventions. We played off each other with one person starting and then the other had to fill in, taking turns until we had a cool poem or rhyme together.
It is a creative process that engages the playful side of our brain and lets us lose some of the stresses on having to come up with a killer ass post.
This poem is a little insight into me the person and my life as a freelance writer. I hope you enjoy reading it.
Freelance writing is my life,
besides looking after my spouse as a caring wife.
Mother to babies of the feathered kind,
these little beauties are always on my mind.
When early in the morning the house is still asleep,
I can be found at my desk, already knee deep.
Starting the day with a herbal cup of tea,
it allows me to connect with the person that is the real me.
Writing away at my various tasks,
I take an occasional sip from the flask.
Working for myself is a dream come true
and for those who wonder, so can you!
To balance all the work I do,
I remember to have fun with all of you.
In keeping fit amongst my hectic schedules
I rejoined the gym for various modules.
Yoga, pilates and weights galore,
make sure I keep going back for more.
As another day closes to an end,
I happily go to sleep and that’s it – the end!

That was a great little poem with insight into you! I can only imagine what fun rhyming with your boss must have been, wish I were a fly on the wall!!

@ Jenny: Thank you, I’m glad you liked it. Indeed it was a lot of fun and being a fly on the wall would have been very entertaining I think.

Hi Monika,
That’s a pretty neat idea. Cathryn and I often try to make up song lyrics about whatever is happening at the moment, to some popular song. Sort of like rapping but without the rap, I suppose. I guess it’s kind of the same idea – like improv in many ways.
(As I was reading your poem, just for fun, I put it to an Eminem song, and it fit pretty well… MC Monika is in da house!)

Great poem Monika, nice to hear something new from you.I like the poem. It’s great to come up with such a poem for only 15minutes. I can somehow imagine the scene seeing you building your thoughts together. It shows your never ending interest and dedication for your work. Good job…

@ Brett: yo man, get your ass back here and into gear and I’ll show you da MC rappa. Rappping away is like performing a play while the crowd gets into the moves to my rhythmic grooves.

@ Red: thank you so much. It’s good to get some positive feedback for my little experiment. If for nothing else, I had a good laugh last night when i created this on the fly.
Nice of you to stop by too. Did you realize that your site is down (or at least it won’t load at my end).

@ Brett: Yo are a crazy but certainly not lazy. V-flat white was honking, now its time for true stonking.
While the masta is at work, yours truly lets out a smirk.
Finding nirvana with the beat, one day we all have to meet.
(stonking = party)

Just want to say up front that the following poem is NOT my real opinion, just something that happens to rhyme!
There once was a freelancer down under
Everyone called her the girl wonder
Then she wasted our time
With a ridiculous rhyme
That became a terrible blunder
Sorry it’s negative, but it just worked out that way! Let me try a positive but less catchy one:
There once was a gal in Australia
I wanted to send her an azalea
She has a great blog
And I’d give her my dog
But never drug paraphernalia
Well, it’s a work in progress!

@ Hunter:
Man I like your style
and it made me smile.
No offense taken on what you said,
so please don’t feel the need to be sad.
I thank you for the lovely azalea flower,
it will feel right at home in the next rain shower.
As for your dog, he is most welcome here,
I might even share with him my next beer.
Or else we take a walk on the beach together
and gaze into the setting sun forever.

when you say, you sing about the things happening around you. i feel delighted and surely those songs and lyrics should be of praising which give you joy and smiles.
