Become A Better Writer With White Smoke
White Smoke is a smart online writing software working with all applications. Whether you are about to send an email, write a blog post in any editor or construct a letter in Word, White Smoke lets you check at the click of your mouse, whether your grammar and English is up to standards.
Just click F2, in any application, to have your own editor and spell check software at hand.
I have sampled White Smoke for a few weeks now and am generally impressed by the ease of use. Admittedly, it took me a while to learn the software as initially I didn’t really know what I was doing.
I suggest for any new user to read the help section in order to get up to speed quickly, without major hiccups.

The White Smoke software is actually available for different writing styles like:

- Creative writing
- Executive writing (includes all other writing applications)
Supporting White Smoke Applications
As I mentioned before, White Smoke supports many applications such as:
· Outlook
· Outlook Express
· Word
· Office
· Notepad
· WordPad
· WordPerfect
· MS Works
· MS ACCESS
· ICQ
· Incredimail
· Quicken
· WordPad
· Web mail
· Netscape
· Mozilla Firefox
· Internet Explorer
· Your Custom Applications
· Plus thousands of Other Applications
White Smoke Negatives
As with anything good there also comes a little bad. One complain I personally have is when I use the F2 feature from within my Windows Live Writer and click OK after the spelling suggestions have been executed, I lose all my previously saved screen shots and images.
This is a little annoying to me, since I always insert them as I go.
Other than this I found White Smoke to be an application I seem to use more and more in business.

Nice tool Monika. By the way any particular reason why you didn’t answer any of my emails sent to you during the past one month ?
Ed | Jun 24, 2008 | Reply
Very nice tool recommendation there. Unfortunately, the price is never listed anywhere prior to submitting my email. What’s the damage like?
Monika | Jun 24, 2008 | Reply
@ Abhijeet: Thank you. I never received an email from you. Could it have ended up in the Spam box? I’m sorry, but could you please send it again?
I’m not sure what is happening but sometimes my email seems to play up. I think it is to do with my DNS connection though.
My apologies for this. ;-(

@ Ed: The general writing version is $79.95 right now. There are also 50% sales on most of the products right now which makes them the perfect time to get them.
The executive version is normally $250 but right now it is reduced to $125 by the looks of it. Hope this helps.

@Monika,
Thanks for sharing this tool with us – it looks like a very nice piece of software indeed.
I will be (finally!) revisiting some of the other software I use for writing soon (remember my old post on Q10?), so maybe I’ll be sure to link back to you!
Perhaps I’ll even have a chance to try out White Smoke myself.

In fact I remember this happened with you sometime back too. I recommend shifting to Google Apps for your domain. You can always trust Google servers more.
Regarding the email, it wasn’t something very important. Just a touch base kinda thing. But when you didn’t reply I was wondering what might have gone wrong
Cheers,
Abhijeet

@ Abhijeet: Why in the world would I want to ignore you? You are a friend, so don’t ever think this. Maybe we have to catch up on skype, that might be easier then email.
I’ll send you an email with my ID then we can chat.

@ Brett: It is. I would never endorse a product I personally don’t use or even like. I found WhiteSmoke really great after getting over my first confusion hurdle and have been using it ever since.
Picks up errors alright.

I purchased WhiteSmok in November 2008, then realised they are not going to send any package, what was promised in their website. Thus I needed to download it from online and then I found that software needs Network connection all the time, even while my PC was connected to network, it was always complaining: “connect to network then try again” for installation. I sent more than 20 emails to WhiteSmoke customer service and all the times they have replied with the same information: “Firewall and antivirus should not be active while installing the WhiteSmok”, this is just a rubbish advice as I did several times, but the software is not still running. I advice you “Do not purchase this product as it is not reliable and WhiteSmoke is just cheating you and stealing your money that is all about”. Personally I will challenge this people as they lied to me and not even refunded me. Please do not buy this product as it is rubbish and it is not going to work for you as they said in their advertisement. You will waste your time, money, and you will also get headache with all the lies what they promise to you by emailing.
Respectfully,
Ruzbe

@ Ruzbe: I appreciate your feedback in regards to Whitesmoke and am truly sorry to hear you had nothing but issues with it. To say the software is not reliable because you had problems is a little steep if you ask me. I’m also puzzled as to why you thought the product was anything else but a download since I never saw it advertised as anything else?
I understand your frustrations in regards to installing the program because I’ve been there with other applications. You have to understand though that customer service can only do so much on their end; they can’t access your computer and trouble-shoot technology for you.
It is true that you have to switch off your firewall and your anti virus while installing Whitesmoke, but perhaps your computer is not suitable for the software. I don’t know and it is hard to guess why it wouldn’t work. I never had any problems myself and I never heard of anybody else experiencing problems either.
I wish I could help you install the program because if you saw how good it is you would certainly change your mind about it. All the best and thanks for sharing.

Hello Monika
Do you know if WhiteSmoke runs under Ubuntu (Linux). I have tried using wine, but at this moment does not work.
Regards
Federico
Monika | Apr 11, 2009 | Reply
@ Frederico: Hi and thanks for asking. I’m afraid though I don’t know the answer to your question. I’ve run wine on my netbook but I only use an USB modem with that. I suggest you get in touch with support and ask them. The following post might or might not give you some pointers. http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/installingsoftware
If you are lucky, then maybe Brett is reading this and him being a whiz with tech stuff he might be able to tell you whether the software can be run on Ubuntu. Theoreticaly speaking I don’t see why not as most other Windows based apps will run on Ubuntu as well. Sorry I can’t be of more help with this.

@Federico and Monika,
I had a look around online and couldn’t find anyone using WhiteSmoke with wine – of course, this does not mean it hasn’t been done, just that no one is sharing the secrets if it works!
They seem to have a demo available – I’ll grab a copy and see if I can get it to work, and then get back to you.
Monika | Apr 11, 2009 | Reply
@ Brett: Thanks buddy always the helpful guy you are.
You just rock!
Brett Legree | Apr 12, 2009 | Reply
@Monika,
Hey, you rock too
I just can’t help myself, I love to help solve problems.
I downloaded the demo and it seemed to install well enough. When I ran it, I was asked for a registration code (which I didn’t have) and they did not give me a demo code.
One thing to consider – the version of wine that is in the standard Ubuntu software repositories is out of date, so it is best to get the latest version from http://winehq.org/download/deb just follow the instructions here and you’ll be good to go.
Also, I noticed there is an online version of WhiteSmoke which is how they support Mac users at http://www.whitesmoke.com/mac/ so maybe you could try that. Not optimal, I know, but worth a shot maybe.
