Emotional Connections To Beat Creative Blocks

Posted by Monika in Writing, ... | 07.31.2008 - 8:41 pm

Creativity blocks always happen at the worst time. I’m sure you experienced the notion of having to deliver on a deadline and suddenly all you do is stare at the computer screen, not knowing what to write next.

emotional connection

I can relate to this a lot. To make matters worse, in those moments we start to do all kinds of unrelated things like:

  • Checking our email inbox, just to see whether that new client has replied.
  • Making things worse by thinking about our inability to come up with a decent piece, which of course doesn’t help.

What Truly Lights Your Fire?

Posted by Monika in Writing, Writing, ... | 07.30.2008 - 6:00 am

image Is there something in this world that lights your fire like nothing else? What is it? I saw this imagine on Flickr last night when I was browsing the selection for another blog post and this blog post title popped into my head.

Fire is essential for survival. Both in the mind and in physical terms. We need fire to warm our bodies on cold winter nights and fire to enliven our minds in order to feel alive.

For some, the fire is related to loved ones, for others it is their vocation. Regardless of where the fire originates, we need it to be wholesome.

Recommended Reading - Freelance Writing Guide

Posted by Monika in Writing, Writing, Fr... | 07.28.2008 - 10:58 pm

I’m nearly at the end of my Freelance Writing Guide For New Freelancers series. There are only three more posts to go in the series including this one. The next series will be about freelance writing behind the scenes and give a more insightful view at my life and what I struggle with every day. It isn’t what you probably think either. But to find out, you don’t have to wait too long (hopefully), as I intend to get started with the new guide sometime next week.

It’s Time To Strip Naked

Posted by Monika in Writing, Writing, Fr... | 07.24.2008 - 8:00 am

A common thread I keep seeing while traversing the Internet is the struggle many of you face every day to get things done. I think the biggest problem we face in the modern world is the constant barrages of information. We are getting bombarded with junk email, RSS feeds, blogs, news sites, chat messages, comments, new announcements and new cool tools.

All of this makes our life increasingly complicated and whoever said that the Internet and digital will make life easier clearly lied. In fact they made life a lot harder and certainly more cluttered.

Keep Productive With Writing Prep Rituals

Posted by Monika in Writing, Writing, Fr... | 07.23.2008 - 3:20 pm

Writing prep rituals can keep our productivity levels at high gear. Best of all, they don’t need to be elaborate to work well either. Small rituals work best, because we can perform them any time to get us into the right writing mood.

The worst situation for a writer is when he can’t feel comfortable with his surrounding. If there are any disturbing factors, it is so easy to make excuses on why we don’t write. I know this too well as I experience this type of situation right now.

The Remarkable Person Within You

Posted by Monika in Writing, Writing, Fr... | 07.19.2008 - 8:00 am

Have you ever wished to be truly remarkable? You know, the type of remarkable that turns heads and gets people’s attention? Remarkable people are those who will be remembered long after they are gone. Think Martin Luther King, think Stephen Covey. Even the living can be outstanding remarkable personalities.

But to be remarkable we have to be different. And those differences start with your actions. Small steps can eventually lead you to become a remarkable person, even if you don’t believe so yourself.

Contrary to what we think, not just the famous people are remarkable. In fact many people walk quietly amongst us doing remarkable things for mankind.

Success Principles As Seen By My Readers

Posted by Monika in Writing, Writing, Fr... | 07.18.2008 - 3:48 pm

Success is paramount for any business owner. While many of us chase the holy grail of success some, or most sadly will deviate from their journey at some stages. While success can actually mean many things for each individual, most people associate the word with becoming financially successful.

success principles

Perhaps we see it this way because we see money as a means to acquire anything we ever want. While money certainly does help to feel successful in some ways, it isn’t the only way to measure success at all. Far from it actually.

Copywriting - The 10 Magic Words

Posted by Monika in Writing, Writing, Fr... | 07.16.2008 - 10:00 pm

copywriting

This is post number twelve in my Freelance Writing Guide For New Freelancers. Back in 2006 I did a copywriting workshop with one of the famous copywriters in modern history. His name is David Garfinkel. Tim Erway also happened to be on the same call. Funny enough, after finishing the workshop, I never actually ventured into much copywriting work. I did some jobs for a few clients, but they weren’t huge squeeze pages or sales pages. Although I’m very confident I can pull this off if need be, I haven’t ventured down that particular road just yet.

Fair Pay For Freelance Writers

Posted by Monika in Writing, Writing, Fr... | 07.15.2008 - 11:48 pm

Money makes the world go around. Does it really? Sure it does. But we also need a fair dose of passion, dedication, integrity, hard work and excitement. For freelancer writers money is the butter on our bread, the tea bag in our tea cup and the steak with our vegetables (although vegies here in Australia have become way to expensive).

money and fair pay

When we take money into consideration, our dedication to writing become a job. Admittedly our “job” is one of immense satisfaction since we can work from home. Since jobs are paid in monetary terms, fair payment is important for every freelance writer. What determines fair though? Who says you get paid fairly and justly?
