Sucked Into The Lion’s Lair

This might be embarrassing. But then it might not. In fact, if you think I’m going to make a fool of myself, go blame the Urban Panther, or the Urbane Lion. See, they started this meme tagging thingy. Since the lion said it’s for all the people he loves, I’d like to consider myself one of them, therefore subjecting you to a rarely seen meme right here on my blog. Plus, how could I resist to show you my brilliance?

Ack, I told you it might get messy. Be warned! Normally I shy away from memes and tagging posts, I actually see them as a waste of time. In this case however, I’m happy to waste my time some more, since I just spent three hours commenting on other blogs anyway. So what the heck, life goes on.

Ladies and gentlemen, here is who I am:

I am a child at heart.

I am in love with my soul mate.

I have the best man a woman could want.

I have music in my head.

I smile a lot.

I don’t like moody and slimy people.

I am a good friend.

I love my birds.

I’m determined.

I have no regrets about anything in my life.

I suck at networking a room at a party.

I crave to be touched and stroked, the more the merrier.

I give a lot and tend to be misused by those I trust.

I live in paradise.

I love my life.

I love to dance.

I’m a sucker for travel. It is one of my passions.

I am very sensitive person even though I appear strong.

I’m a fighter and never give up.

I’m starving.

I fancy a glass of red wine. Since I’m out of wine, port will have to do now.

I love life and look forward to every day.

I’m indulgence incorporated. I love to indulge into good food, wine, followed by a rompy session under the sheets – in that order.

I need warmth and sunshine.

I’m a free spirit.

I don’t like the cold (that is why I escaped from Europe).

I’m spiritual, on the search for the meaning of life.

I’m a closet pagan.

I’m a better listener than talker and I definitely don’t do small talk, unless it is with friends I trust.

I feel comfortable with my friends and the people I love. Unfortunately this doesn’t involve many members of my family.

I don’t like gossip.

I need a holiday.

I can hear bird song.

I need to get out more.

I desperately need exercise to fit into a sexy bikini on my cruise.

I so want an Apple Mac Book Pro.

I love the smell of vanilla and cinnamon.

I’m happy to be me.

I tag all of you who feel like sharing to get to know you better.

Hi Monika – this is a brilliant meme. I have to say – we really are a lot alike, although I don’t have any birds.

Where are you planning to cruise to?

  2. Monika | Aug 16, 2008 | Reply

@ Cath: It is isn’t it. I figured it will give my readers a chance to get to know me some more and see who I really am.

I’m not surprised that we are alike. I’ve had an inkling because I really like what you write and the voice in which you present your information.

Now you just have to move to Australia. Although you probably feel the lure of Canada too don’t you?

The cruise is a surprise. I actually don’t want to know. All I do know is that it will go somewhere to the Pacific islands. :-) When I step on the boat I’ll know, no sooner.

  3. Urban Panther | Aug 16, 2008 | Reply

Oooo…..we are kindred spirits! I can totally relate to this list!

  4. Urbane Lion | Aug 16, 2008 | Reply

LOL Great list! You sound like a very fun person to be with! Which part of Australia do you live in? A brother of mine lives in suburbs of Perth and I think Robin from Let’s Live Forever lives in SA.

  5. Monika | Aug 16, 2008 | Reply

@ UP: I had the same feeling when I read your list too. In fact it was so inspiring that I just had to write my own.

This morning I danced for ten minutes straight and then I thought about you and it made me grin. :-)

  6. Monika | Aug 16, 2008 | Reply

@ UL: Thanks UL, but I am. ;-) I live in Queensland. Sunny coastal town of about 15,000 give or take. Compared to the city it is a bush town.

Lived in SA myself but Queensland is definitely my pick. Love the weather, the beaches, the water and the lifestyle.

UP was saying you guys are heading out here in a couple of years time.

  7. Davina | Aug 16, 2008 | Reply

I can really identify with this list. Ok, I can’t stand it anymore… I have to do this meme NOW. I used to have a white cockatiel like yours, plus a love bird and a pekin robin. I adore birds!

  8. Kelly@SHE-POWER | Aug 16, 2008 | Reply

Yay, Urban panther has totally started something since I put my version of this meme up yesterday!

I can relate to so much of this list:

    1. I need warmth and sunshine. (I am suffering teribly this winter in Sydney because I missed June and had no lead in. I came home from Spain’s heat and thought I would die – it’s still a very real possibility)

    2. I’m a free spirit.

    3. I’m spiritual, on the search for the meaning of life.

    4. I am a good friend.

    5. I’m determined.

    6. I have no regrets about anything in my life.

I love getting to know about my bloggy friends.

    Have a good weekend.

    Kelly

@ Davina: Cool. I have to hop over and check out your meme too when it’s up. It was fun to write up all these pointers, not as easy as it looks either. Ok, see ya later.

  10. Monika | Aug 16, 2008 | Reply

@ Kelly: Oh you poor thing. It’s bad enough for those of us who have been weaned into the Aussie winter. Plus, Sydney is way colder than up here and I AM freezing. I really feel for you.

Woohoo, sounds like another kindred spirit you are. I’m off to see your meme now. See you there.

  11. Cath Lawson | Aug 16, 2008 | Reply

Hi Monika – A surprise cruise sounds brilliant – especially to the Pacific islands.

I must admit – I’m drawn to both countries. But I didn’t expect Australia to be so cold in the winter. If it’s any consolation – it’s bloody cold in England right now and this is supposed to be our summer.

  12. Urbane Lion | Aug 16, 2008 | Reply

Yes, we should be making our way to WA in 2010. Can’t wait! You think the Aussie winter is bad? You should see the pictures the UP took last winter. We had snow over the windows. That made the house completely dark even during the day!

  13. Friar | Aug 17, 2008 | Reply

Thanks for letting us know more about yourself. (I find you can often tell more about a person from one-word answers than when they write a whole essay.

    But (Heh heh heh)…Oboy.

(Like I wrote on Steph’s blog, this meme is just ASKING for me to make up my own list…and you know it’s going to be “Friar’s” version. :-) (Smart-ass comments included).

I’ve actually started writing it (and it’s made me laugh aloud). I just haven’t’ got around to posting it yet.

  14. Friar | Aug 17, 2008 | Reply

    @Kelly and Monika

Oh, dear. Sorry, you Ozzies don’t get ANY sympathy from this Canadian, when you talk about cold weather! :-)

During the winter, I start to complain when the wind on my face feels like burning fire, and my cheeks go numb, it makes my eyes water, and the tears freeze on my face.

But you go outside anyway, because you’re so tired of being cooped up inside, you just need to feel the sun on your face, even if it’s minus 25C.

(Yes, we Canadians are NUTS). Though I must admit, each winter it gets harder and harder to live here, and I wonder why I don’t’ move somewhere sunny and nice like Oz.

(I spent a month in Queensland once…I loved it!)

I’ve never seen this meme before but it’s a good one. I always like when bloggers reveal things about themselves and this is a great way for us readers to get to know you. Your birds are adorable!

    Monika,

Since I can NOT be tagged on this (sorry), I need you to EMAIL ME ASAP at email removed by admin to protect the person against spam re: “Bruce.” We’re moving along here, but I need your email!

    :-)

  17. Monika | Aug 17, 2008 | Reply

@ Cath: Yeah, I can’t wait. I know it will be awesome. At least this gives me enough time to work ahead and post plenty of draft posts so I can minimize my online time during the cruise.

Well, you might laugh at us winging Aussies as our cold might be t’shirt weather for you. Hehehe…

But for us, it is bloody freezing for sure. Funny though, even though I grew up in Europe I can’t deal with the cold anymore. You really adapt fast to the heat here and then winter is even more freezing.

You will find though that Canada is definitely colder than Oz.

  18. Monika | Aug 17, 2008 | Reply

@ UL: Oh, I believe this. Are you guys in Canada as well? It must be crazy cold up there. Not sure whether I could take this. The cold dark days affect me negatively for sure and I can’t wait for summer.

This reminds me when I was a kid. Back then we used to get a lot more snow where I grew up and it wasn’t rare to be snowed in on our winter holidays. That was great.

You guys will love it in WA. Awesome beaches and climate, great local wine and plenty to do. If you are into wine, then you have to visit Margaret River, just south of Perth.

  19. Monika | Aug 17, 2008 | Reply

@ Friar: I’m with you on that. Learning more about UP, UL, Kelly (and those yet to come) makes me all tingle inside. It’s nearly as good as going to the pub and have a long evening of getting to know one another fun. (Minus the excess alcohol for me though) :-)

I can imagine you would come up with some smart-ass comments and that is what makes you you and special. plus hilariously funny. :-) I look forward to reading it.

  20. Monika | Aug 17, 2008 | Reply

@ Friar: Hey, you are always welcome here. plus with your buddy Brett moving closer soon you might miss him so much you won’t be able to resist the lure of hot weather, beaches, top fishing, top hiking, awesome chicks, surf, great lifestyle, great beer…. need I say more? :-)

    -25 C Brrrrrrrrrr…..you guys ARE nuts!

  21. Monika | Aug 17, 2008 | Reply

@ Melissa: Thank you. Yes my babies are adorable. I have more now too. It’s a like a zoo here and maybe tomorrow I’m a new bird nanny too. We’ll see. :-)

The personal aspect is what drew me to this meme. It really helps to connect with one another, seeing that most of us share a lot of the character traits.

It would be great to see you doing one too.

  22. Monika | Aug 17, 2008 | Reply

@ Rita: I understand, no problem. I sent you an email too. :-) I thought it best to remove yours from the comment section to preserve your privacy, otherwise spam bots will have a heyday with you.

  23. Rita | Aug 18, 2008 | Reply

The “bots?” lol Trust me, little scares me. I guess that’s why I won’t be “tagged.” I might frighten away my – and your – readers!

    Rita

    You’d delete me????? :-(

  24. Brett Legree | Aug 18, 2008 | Reply

    I don’t go outside. I just pour another glass of rum… when the bottle’s empty, it’s usually spring… :)

  25. Brett Legree | Aug 18, 2008 | Reply

    @Monika,

I really liked your list (and I’m late to the party this time – lots of sun this weekend, had to make hay) – and you know, I think I’ll have to do my own. You’ve got me thinking this would be fun!

On the topic of the move, I keep slogging away at it – my goal is to only do one more winter in Canada. I believe we can do it.

    Monika, This wa great reading,

I am puzzled to hear that you complain about freezing winters. Australia is on our possible tranfer list and I put it close to the top( of my personal preference)- ahead of France and Canada because it had beaches and warm weather. Was I wrong?

  32. Friar | Aug 22, 2008 | Reply

    @Wendi

I know it can freeze down south (like Canberra). But further north, it’s quite toasty warm.

When I visited Oz, my girlfriend at the time considered it “good beach weather” when it was sunny and 90 degrees.

But if it was slightly overcast and (gasp), “only” in the 80′s, it was considerd “Shit weather” and people stayed home!

  33. Monika | Aug 22, 2008 | Reply

@ Wendi: Noooooo, you weren’t wrong. I swear the weather is fabulous here. But, we don’t have central heating in our house (and most don’t have anyway). Houses here are built for the warm weather, except the new ones who have better insulation and all.

It does get down to 0′C down south though. Here in Qld. it gets as low as 2′C in certain areas. Thank god winter is only a short 3 months usually anyway.

The other 9 months is awesome. But, with changing weather patterns and all who knows what will happen in the future. I think it will only get hotter in summer and colder in winter.

Plus, we (or most Aussies) are not equipped with snuggly winter coats a la Jack Wolfskin, etc here. Or even your outdoorsy waterproof gear, so it is only normal that we freeze even more.

  34. Monika | Aug 22, 2008 | Reply

@ Friar: It is a bit like that for sure. I guess we are spoilt for sunshine. I swear, where I live we have around 95% sunshine throughout the year. It’s easy to take it for granted and complain when it is shit weather.
