Aspiring To The Nomad Writing Lifestyle
I’m a nomad at heart, always have been and always will be. Living in the same place for years on end is reason enough to light the fire under my butt making me yearn to head back out into the big wide outdoors in search of new adventures.
Nomad writers have the best of both worlds. They can travel and roam this wonderful planet we live in and at the same time pay their ways with the income they earn from their writing.
What else could one wish for?
Living the lifestyle of a nomad writer is my ultimate dream. I can honestly not see the value of working my butt off for an employer during the peak of my adult life, only to be pensioned when I’m sixty and then die when I’m sixty-one. Unfortunately this happens all too often and I rather take my chances and enjoy every minute I have with my beloved.
I don’t believe in working hard for no apparent reason either, and gosh have I done plenty of that already! However, I do believe in working hard for a goal, a dream!
And that is precisely what I do right now. My dream of a life lived on the road is what keeps me working when I rather sleep, watch a good movie or do what most other people do in their spare time, namely socialize.
I’m also happy to announce that I employed my first writer and that the person already earned $125 in the last 4 days. Mind you, the work wasn’t keeping the writer busy for 4 days either. One day max at the most I would guess.
In the future I will take on more writers on board as more tasks can be outsourced to them. The idea is to help both them and myself in our respective businesses.
Looking toward 2009
I have big plans for 2009. First off I want to double my existing income to help my husband retire for good so that we can organize our custom built caravan for our nomad lifestyle.
We also want to pay off our mortgage which will make us debt free and able to enjoy even more benefits with the surplus money generated. Being in a position like this is rare, especially in today’s economic downturn. However, we have worked very hard for the last 20+ years to afford this lifestyle. Everything we have is solely generated by our own two hands and not some unexpected donation from a wealthy relative (I wish!).
I see my business growing exponentially over the next twelve months which includes taking new writers on board, JV partnerships, my own eBook(s)/courses and of course my ever growing niche sites.
The idea is to generate revenue from more than one place, creating income security as much as this is actually possible.
To document my travel steps from herein I have launched a brand new site called Writing Nomad. I had this planned ages ago and figured if I don’t act now, I never will get it off the ground. Writing Nomad will be my travel cum writing site where I document my life on the road as a writer and much more. It is a combination of two of my biggest passions, allowing me to stay creative and have heaps of fun along the way while indulging my love for travel and writing.
I invite you to come say hello and while away with me while you enjoy some armchair travels from the comfort of your home.
Monika

I had no idea you were a traveller at heart Monika! I think I am an intermittant nomad – I thought that I would launch my online career while we drove 35,000km around Australia LOL Saw a lot of Australia, discovered just how bad internet access is out there! Didn’t get much work done! I’ve done a lot better since we’ve had a base in Perth.

Monika,
Checked out your new site. Cool. I am a nomad at heart also, but am bogged down for at least 4-5 more years. Frankly, I am tired of winter as I look outside at the near zero visibility weather today. Only 3-4 more months of winter!

Monika, been a while since I last dropped by to leave a note. Activities are springing up over where I am… very exciting 2009 and I hope the same for you. Great to be reading your writings again. Certainly love that touch of motivation in your words.
You changed your theme, looks really neat and I like it. I had a switch in theme too but I am barely half done. The new year is coming. I wish you, your family and loved ones all the best in 2009.

Hi Monika!
I look forward to 2009 with excitement, to see where you will be going and to hitch a ride on your coattails perhaps
as I too have big plans for travel – first, a big geographical relocation, and then lots of travel, down in your neck of the woods.
Writing Nomad looks like it will be a great site and I’ll be watching it closely!
You are so right to follow this path – I decided a couple of years ago to do that myself, because we can’t assume that we will make it to pensionable age, or that there will even be a pension fund when we do get there. We have to live *now*.
You’ll do well with this!

Glad to hear your night hire is working out! I’m sure since you’ve set this goal, you won’t have ANY problem paying off that pesky mortgage and hitting the road!

I love your attitude. Frankly the the thought of working like this until I’m of “retirement age” and beyond is very depressing. Having a chronic illness makes it 20 times worse. I have been away from my day job for the past week and a half on holiday (some of it unpaid) and I have never felt better in a long time. I’ve only been working for 14 years (only 30)and I already feel burnt! It would be my dream to retire completely at 35.
I hope everything you worked hard for come true in 2009!

Monika…
Yippeee! Welcome to the club. I am going on the same route as you are and I have already taken the big step. of course, I will start with my own country and then move on. I might not be going the usual way nomads do RTW( round the world. I want to touch base.
So, I now plan to go to every nook and corner of India –where I live — coz I believe it is a country in which every state is another country…lol.
Then move to SE Asia — a logical step, ain’t it? Next US, Canada, Latin America.
Europe and finally Australia and New Zealand.
We must cross our paths some time
