Free eBook And Sizzling Web Copy Tips
I finally got off my procrastination ass and wrote not only one but two eBooks in the last couple of weeks. Actually, the eBook I’m giving away for free here was created in a single day and proved to be a lot of fun. I also hope to kick butt with some of you who have been toying with the idea of writing their own eBook.
Consider this a FREE kick up the behind from me.
No extra charge! (yes Brett that does include YOU too).
I guess I got hooked on eBook writing when I had to finish THAT mammoth project just after returning from our first cruise (yes, it was an eBook too). Since I have gotten into the meat of things I have also finally started working on releasing my own information product later down the line. It will be a labor of love, together with a friend and JV partner but that’s all I can say for now.
The creation of something unique, carrying YOUR fingerprint
Meanwhile I had to learn how to format those damn things and let me tell you, it wasn’t easy right off the bat. Eventually though I got the hang of it and am proud to have managed myself. You be the judge though. Just excuse the lack of graphics in the eBook. I didn’t want to spend money on a free product that might not even get read. LOL.
You can get your eBook by clicking on the link. How to Create Your Own Information eBooks.
Feel free to share your views with me if you get time to read the eBook. It is only 11 pages short but hopefully helps those of you who want to get their first eBook written and online.
But now let’s move away from the blatant self promotion and look at some tips to get your web copy sizzling.
How to write sizzling web copy
Before we can establish parameters of what makes web copy sizzling we need to understand why your copy needs to sizzle at all. While I’m certainly NOT the expert on the subject I deem myself knowledgeable enough to have a good understanding of the term sizzling, and what it means in regards to copywriting.
Sizzling described in an erotic way is: graphic sex; explicit sexual language; may offend delicate readers (SIREN)
While this example is quite strong I found it appropriate to show you what emotions can provoke us to do and this is where sizzling web copy performs best; on our emotional levels.
If you transform the said statement into your copywriting needs you quickly see that writing sizzling copy is all about making statements that instigate action from the reader. When we manage to touch them on their raw and emotional levels is when our copy sizzles the most.
Further to choosing the right words we also have to pay attention to other aspects of our copy creations such as:
- Design
- Color schemes
- Images/video
Let us look at these a little closer…
Design principles for sizzling web copy
One of the most important aspects on copywriting besides the words we use is the design. This includes the use of easy to skim paragraphs; sorted into information that makes sense and flows on nicely from our opening statement.
- Sentences have to be short and not inflated with unnecessary words.
- The information should be provided in easy to use language without technical terms that can’t be understood by the masses.
- Bullet points should be used frequently to help the reader skim the page.
- The same applies to h1 tags, bold and italic pieces of text. Use them to enhance a particular strong message.
- Use a reader friendly design that begs people to read on. Good copy is all about the perceived value a visitor gets from the moment they happen onto your site.
Use applicable color schemes in your web copy
Have you ever noticed how sales letters are structured besides the careful use of words? Much of a successful campaign boils down to the overall color scheme of that site.
Think emotions and colors. Psychic site owners often use purple-, golf sites use green- and ocean based sites use blue color schemes. Site owners who want you to get REALLY excited often use a combination or red and black because those colors speak of power, raunchiness and action.
Choosing the right color scheme with your copy prompts readers to make decisions by manipulating (what a horrible word) them on a subconscious level.
Why a picture/video speaks a thousand words
We all know that pictures speak to us in a thousand words. In fact it is often a picture that draws me to read a blog post (besides the title of course).
Pictures help us associate feelings with what is being said in an body of text and those feelings prompt us to buy a product, service or membership. Pictures and videos often serve as a pre-selling point of contact between us and our buyers, readers, clients. This is why it is important to provide a picture of yourself as a service provider to help build trust with your potential clients.
Are you ready to sizzle?
With a few simple tricks and implementations of ideas you too can become a sizzling copy writer that lures readers to you hook, line and sinker. Are you ready for it?

*ouch* it’s amazing how well that kick worked half way around the globe!
Thanks for sharing that e-book with us (it is quite good!) and this is a great list of tips.
(That link certainly *is* sizzling too, woo hoo! good thing I’m not delicate)
I think the one thing I’ve not been using that I should use in my web writing is headings and so forth – if it works on paper, why not out here?
Now, off to start that e-book – well, once I get back from work anyway…

@ Brett: Glad it worked, now you realize that I WANT to SEE your progress on that eBook. You out yourself out there and now you have to own up I’m afraid.
Thanks for the feedback on the eBook too. Not sure what you refer to as the sizzling link. Hmmm…… (if it’s not linking to your name forgive me but I didn’t want to give you meaningless links that mean nothing in regards to SEO.)

Thanks for the tips and the ebook Monika. I don’t often read free ebooks but I’ll read this one a) Because you wrote it and I trust you and b) Because I’m working on my own product and I know this will come in useful. Will let you know what I think.

Hi Monika:
Found you at TumbleMoose Productions. What a character. I figured any follower of George would be a hoot and I was right. Not to mention a great resource for an inspiring writer wannabe. Thank you for the free eBook.
It was very interesting and informative. There are SO MANY resources for the blogger that it is most often just overwhelming and sends me into information overload and freezes me into inaction.
I do have a question, why did you choose Scribd to promote or deliver your eBook?
Monika | Mar 30, 2009 | Reply
@ Dee: You are welcome. I am glad the book is helping you as well as my information on the site. I chose Scribd because I figured it would promote itself being hosted on the platform which would help. I also wanted to see how many eyeballs would see the book without me having to do major promotion. I guess you’d call it a trial.
