Rewind. Or The Art Of Reflection
I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting lately. Thinking back on old times. Times when writing online was but a lofty dream for me. Sometimes it is so easy to forget where we came from and what it took to get us into the current situation – the now – the here.
Can you remember where it all started for you? If so, I sure would like to hear about it. This post is about rewinding. Stopping. Taking a fresh breath of air and stepping outside your comfort zone.
As writers we tend to hibernate with nothing else than our computers, our creativity and our work!
It’s time you rewind and take a fresh perspective at your life. What do you do here? Why are you so adamant in reaching your goals? Goals are important to power us through life. They give us definitions in our daily undertakings and help us to stay focused.
Do you have a goal? Perhaps you have several!
Are you mindful enough about doing what YOU really want to do in life, or are you simply following a well-trodden path, hoping to find enlightenment, success, love, recognition?
Reflecting on the past in an objective way is good for the soul. It helps us to remember who we really are and why we do what we do. It is very much possible to discover being on the wrong track – somehow we have missed the last turn off and started heading in the wrong direction.
You can always stop and turn back. This is why you need to rewind often. It would be devastating to find out you’ve been chasing the wrong dreams years down the track – or would it?
There are no mistakes – only lessons!
You will be the judge!
Ultimately we are all in charge of our own destination. The beauty of being alive means that we can choose our ways. We are in charge of our bodies, our environment, our lives and our destination. It’s no good blaming others for what happened to you in the past. But we all do it somewhere, somehow.
It is very empowering to know that you hold the key to your wildest dreams right in the palm of your hand at this moment in time! Stop chasing. Instead, take a step inward and listen to your heart. Your heart will never lie to you – it will show you the way – if you are prepared to stop and listen.
Listen – can you hear it? Rewind. Do it now!

You have no idea how timely this is, Monika… rewinding, reflecting, refocusing. Listening to my gut.
Good luck with your rewinding exercise
see you on the other side.

Hi Monika,
Rewinding also makes me appreciate the present as I often forget in my never ending desires and goals that today is the day I have dreamt about yesterday.

@ Brett: Hell it was a liberation. That’s all I can say for now. I’m sure you will benefit from the exercise too. Especially in this moment in time. Let me know what happened.

@ Venkat: You’ve got a strong point. If we couldn’t appreciate the present in any give time what would be the point of living!

@Monika,
Well, I suppose I reaffirmed what I already knew to be true, some of what we talked about. I know I can’t waste any more time on the path I currently walk, work-wise. I even spent some time today at lunch, drove to a secluded lake and ate lunch by myself.
That was the only moment of sanity I had all day long, between leaving for work and returning home… that’s how I know I’m right

@ Brett: That lake sounds lovely. I would really love to visit Canada again. It is such a lovely country and number two on the list of top countries in the world to live in.

@Monika,
It really is a nice spot. I’ll try and take a photo to send to you.
I find that Canada is amazing in the spring/summer/fall. Well, some folks like the winter too, but I am not too fussy about it
however, right now is a very nice time of year.
I suspect that’s why I fell in love with NZ – it seems to have the Canadian-type spring/summer/fall without the -30 C winters… brrr…

Rewinding can be really helpful and I think there are a lot of benefits from it — as long as you don’t STAY there and remember to come back to the present!
