Jael, you are quite right - you don't have to like or be interested in something to write well about it. I suspect we would all get precious little work done if that were the case! It's just so good to get a gig that does strike a chord. I always find the words flow so much more easily when there is natural passion behind them.

Of course, what is or is not "objectionable" depends on your personal opinions. I have written quite happily for Beelzebub Monthly for several years now, although I know other writers may have turned that one down.

I'm joking. ]:-)

Writing for something morally or ethically reprehensible would not make for a good business practice. If potential clients find that you will write anything for a buck, they may not want to be associated with you. So, unless a client is able to pay your bills for time indefinite, linking yourself with someone objectionable doesn't make good business sense.

On the other hand, just because I am not passionate about something doesn't mean I can't write about it. Being a good freelance writer means that we should be able to breathe life into something even if it isn't our favorite topic, just as a symphonic musician plays his best even if he isn't performing his favorite piece of music.

Mark,

Oh yeah. I've had to write for some decidedly liberal sites where it just absolutely grated my nerves raw. Whored myself out just the same. The credit card companies are very happy with this approach I must say.

As usual, great and insightful post. Gotta tweet and stumble this one for sure.
