After Vic blogged about owning your own niche and told us to build a niche site not so long ago, I contemplated the idea and nearly dismissed it on the premises that I wasn’t the type to hunt for news in my hometown. But then I realized that this wasn’t the requirement anyway since there are so many ways we can approach a local niche.

Then yesterday morning I happened to brainstorm local niche ideas for my blog with hubby and when I jumped to Vic’s blog at night there was another post of his were he challenged his readers to get active once and for all.

Go figure!

Naturally I was already pumped up from my brainstorming session earlier in the day and Vic’s post gave me the final push to go and register that domain.

So here it is – the only niche domain I will ever make public! For those of you who work niches heavily you know why. (Hint – Adsense)

Drum roll please……Yeppoon Chronicle

I had to purchase a brand new domain because the name Yeppoon isn’t that popular when it comes to pre-owned ones. LOL

So yes, I know that eventually I will most likely end up in the sandbox, but in this case I fully take the risk as the site requires building up before it can be heavily monetized anyway. Bear in mind that I still need to change hyperlink colours and a few minor things but for starters I think it looks great and reads well too.

How I got this Blog Indexed By Google Within 38 Minutes

• no, I didn’t submit to search engines (oh my god)
• no, the domain wasn’t pre-owned (remember I only just bought the domain yesterday night)
• no, I didn’t pay someone else to do it for me.

Yes, I invented a new “recipe”

I simply used what I learned from Vic (Blog Marketing), Court (Internet Marketing) and Grizzly (Make Money Online) and that’s it!

Did you expect anything else?

Sorry to disappoint, but that is really it.

Here Is A Little Known Secret To Save Yourself Time:

To save time looking for that perfect video on You Tube you can do a targeted search. Below is the screen shot of my search on “Internet marketing“. What you see are the latest uploads in this niche and naturally you can search on any niche exactly the same way.

How can we do this?

It is done by looking for the relevant RSS feeds. Feeds are displayed with tags and that is why tagging is so important.

One way this could potentially mislead you is if You Tube users apply the wrong tag, meaning “non related” to the actual content. Unfortunately this is already an issue, as I had to discover. Nonetheless, it will still save you time by being able to skim through the latest tag related videos to find the ones you are looking for.

The following URL is what I used in the search term. You can use the same method and substitute the “internetmarketing” part with the tag of your choice to find relevant videos.

Search URL = http://youtube.com/rss/tag/internetmarketing.rss

There you go, a quick and easy way to find the latest You Tube videos.

So lets look at what we need to do in order to get this done. For starters, there are quite a few products that offer us to burn our own feeds. But for now I really only want to focus on Feedburner which is by far the most popular feed burning service in the market. It is free to use and can be utilized by anybody with a blog or website. When you first visit Feedburner, you will see below screen.

To start burning your Feed you will need to type your website URL into the empty box in the middle of the page. if you are a podcaster don’t forget to tick the little box to the right of your URL input field. It will help you to also burn a podcast feed. To demonstrate I’m burning a feed for my self branded website.

As you can see on the next image, I typed the full URL of my blogsite into the space.

After you click next you will be lead to another screen. As you can see below, there is a little welcome message that allows you to check whether the feed URL is to your satisfaction.

Now you will be asked to fill in a username and a password, plus your email address to create a new account. To do this you need to click on activate at the bottom of the page. If you are already a member, you can simply click on the sign in link.

That’s it, your new feed has just been successfully created. See the image below on how it looks like.

From there you will have a couple of options, such as adding Feedburner Pro stats to your tracking which is a neat little feature that used to be only available for paid options. These days however it is free for users. Tick what applies to you and click next.

That’s it, your done! At least with burning a successful feed. The next step is to insert your feed into your blog and Feedburner has some good information on their site to help you with this.

As you can see on this following screen shot you can create feeds for any blog and even for Facebook.

For WordPress users I would recommend to download and install the Feedburner Feedsmith Plugin as it will help you to track all your subscribers within Feedburner.

From here you will need to choose an Icon for your feed to display on your blogsite. You can use the standard feed icons available from Feedburner, or else you can make you own or go to FeedIcons to get your free Web 2.0 style icons.

It really depends on what you personally like and I recommend to learn your way around in the admin section of Feedburner to get more familiar with the subject.

With a bit of elbow grease it really isn’t hard to publish your very own shiny Feed button so your readers can keep updated with your content.
